Who Is Dr. William Evans?
Dr. William Evans was the first graduate of the Moody Bible Institute in 1892 and later became director of the Biblical Studies Department.
As Director of the Biblical Studies Department, he came to the realization that memorizing God's word was one of the greatest challenges his students faced.
�What will it take,� he wondered, �to make Christians commit scripture to memory?� It was a passionate appeal to God. (It might even be one of your prayers as well.)
It was this questioning that led Dr. Evans to find the answer he was looking for.
After much trial-and-error, he discovered and created easy-to-learn techniques that any Christian can use to accurately memorize scripture.
And in 1909 he published his manuscript on scripture memory but it never gained popularity. Obviously, the enemy prevented it to reach the hands of many believers.
But here�s the thing, 60 years after Dr. Evans published his manuscript experts in science and psychology agreed in his memory method. They say it is the simplest and fastest way to retain information in your memory.
In 1968 a memory model called �Atkinson�Shiffrin model� was recognized that supports what Dr. Evans has been teaching to his Bible students for years.
Basically this memory model is saying that for you to keep information in your head long-term, it needs to ascend to three types of memory (storage).
The sensory memory (SM), short-term memory (STM), and the long-term memory (LTM).
Simply stated, if you want to retain Bible verses to your memory forever it needs these verses has to move from sensory memory, and then move to short-term memory, and then move it to long term memory.
Just three simple steps and later I�ll show you how to do that.
Unfortunately, most techniques you�ll read about Bible memorization is focus primarily on storing information on �short-term memory�.
That�s why repetition technique alone or rote learning is ineffective because this approach is trying to skip the God-given and nature of how our brain works.
Repetition technique alone is like throwing mud against a wall. If you throw enough mud, some of it is going to stick.
Sadly, most of it simply slides off and falls to the ground, which is incredibly disheartening.
FACT: You Don�t Need To Improve Your Memory
That�s right. I should stress that you don�t need to improve it. You just need to learn how to use it properly.
